Actions to Gain Community Recognition
Working with Town Officials American Legion Post 110 worked to identify local veterans and school they graduated from. Bronze plaques were designed and erected listing names of veterans by conflict era. A town wide presentation was conducted including veterans, families, Boy Scouts, town officials, state officials and current students of the school.
Fostering Americanism
Boys/Girls State
Typical programs offer city and county mock courts, and a state Supreme Court, with the participants acting as lawyers, judges, plaintiffs, defendants, and jury members. Additionally, there are lectures and workshops for students to fully immerse themselves in government and politics.

Boys/Girls State participation enhances student ability to be admitted to the college or university of their choice. College admissions directors report that being chosen as a boys/girls state delegate is an important addition to the resume of a potential college student in today's highly competitive college application process.

Dear Comrades,
Well tis true time and tide waits for no man and so my October newsletter is now my January letter, my wishing you all had as enjoyable a holiday season as you were able to make it and hoping you all look forward to a much more accommodating 2021. So perhaps this is News and thoughts for early winter.
As noted in the last letter, the Executive Committee had hoped to have been well underway with in person membership meetings long before this time but such was not to be although the committee has continued meeting virtually with a very full agenda each month. None the less the committee is always desirous of your input and if you haven’t noticed the post has a new phone number and is at the top of this page.
Developing a budget has been one of the primary focuses for the last several months. Adjutant Irwin in particular, has done a yeoman’s job developing a budget, sorting out monies previously spent and categorizing individual expenses. The income of course will be primarily derived from the revenue obtained from the post’s investments. With the contributions and suggestions of particularly Ron Griffin, Anthony Centore and David Conner we now have a 2021 budget to work with. A tip of the commander’s hat and congratulations to all board members for a job well done.
By this time I expect you have all heard the post has lost a very active member in the death of Comrade Albert Manganello the post, at the request of Al’s family provided a funeral service ending with the presentation of an American Legion Bible to Al’s wife. Time and current conditions did not make it possible for members to sign the bible and it has been requested of the family that it be returned at their convenience for the members to have an opportunity to do so. If you are interested please get in touch with the adjutant with your name and contact information.
Regrettably, we now have a number of openings which need to be filled and provide opportunities for those who would like to become more active. Please get in touch with any member of the Executive Board for additional information.
Which leads me into a request to all members who have wood working experience and equipment? The post is looking for members who could fabricate some wooden presentation boxes to house the bibles in. It is my feeling that the box would provide some protection of such a keepsake while adding greater significance having been made by a post member.
As a final thought PLEASE do not wait until we have a meeting to check on our elder or not often heard from comrades or for that matter, a neighbor regardless of an affiliation with the post. The holidays have come and gone, couple that with the uncertainty around the state regarding the pandemic and it’s pretty tough going for some. A friendly phone call or quick check at their doorway goes a long way towards brightening a day or relieving their anxiety. Thank you to those who have been doing this all along.
